program overview for upset recovery training (urt)

The NASTAR Center's URT program is designed to train pilots to cope with and successfully recover from unexpected upset conditions. This begins with a thorough academic program that provides pilots with the tools and understanding necessary to build a foundation for success.

Going beyond the initial academic foundation, trainees will then be able to apply their book knowledge in our advanced sustained g motion simulator. The ability to apply practical knowledge in a safe but demanding training environment will allow you to gain proficiency and confidence that you will be able to transfer to the aircraft. The ability to maneuver at the extreme edges of the flight envelope while experiencing the various physiological and physical effects of a real Loss of Control (LOC) situation will provide you the critical skills necessary should you ever encounter a LOC event in your career.

The core of The NASTAR Center's Upset Recovery Training program is composed of two major components over the course of two days:

  • Complete Classroom instruction that covers the core concepts of URT
  • Hands-on upset experiences in the GL-2000 full motion simulator configured as a Generic Large Transport (GLT)
